Elder Pet Food Program

In partnership with Meals on Wheels, APIA is providing supplemental pet food to Elders that have pet companions. This program aims to support Elders in keeping their pet companions by providing support through pet foods. A study by the University of Michigan found that 88% of pet owners believe their pets help them enjoy life, and 86% feel their pets make them feel loved. There are health and wellness benefits linked to animal ownership, Elders may feel a sense of purpose with their pet, and this program aims to ease financial hardship and access to pet foods.

*Eligibility is based on Elders aged 55 and older, who own a pet and live in within the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands Region of Alaska. Pet foods will be sent every other month to Elders until funding is exhausted. We will stop accepting applications on April 1, 2026.
