Crisis/Emergency Services

If you are in a life-threatening situation, please call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or contact your local medical provider or VPSO.

  • There are several resources to help you:
    • Emergency services are delivered 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are available after office hours and on weekends by contacting the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by call, online chat, or text.

    • You can also use the Alaska Careline 24/7 by phone (877-266-4357) or texting “4help” to 839863.

    • APIA also has a warm crisis line 1-844-359-2743 to speak with someone after hours.

    • A Ready Access Appointment or “RAS” appointment is available Monday-Thursday with an APIA clinician. These stand-alone appointments can be a resource for established clients needing extra support between scheduled therapy sessions. RAS appointments can provide bridge services to clients who are awaiting an intake at APIA, entrance into the Intensive Outpatient Program, or other services.

Case Management

We offer case management services for established clients who are actively receiving therapy services. Case management can provide support for finding stable housing, obtaining financial aid, meeting scheduled appointments, and supporting independent living. Case management advocates and supports clients regarding social, educational, legal, and treatment needs, and accessing additional resources and support systems.

Substance Misuse Treatment Services

Outpatient substance misuse treatment is offered in Anchorage, Unalaska, and regionally using telehealth. Treatment is centered on a recovery–oriented curriculum which assists clients with the skills to develop and maintain long-term recovery. Our substance use treatment programs are intended to treat

adults.

Awakuxtxin Intensive Outpatient Program

Awakuxtxin means “working together” in the Unangam Tunuu language. This concept captures the program’s collaborative approach with clients, employers, and community partners. The Awakuxtxin Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is culturally influenced and provides a minimum of 9 hours per week of structured treatment. Our program is intended for adults with moderate to severe substance use disorders. The Living in Balance curriculum is paired with other evidence-based interventions for individuals to build a lifestyle of recovery and wellness.  This includes, but it is not limited to establishing healthy relationships, increasing protective factors to prevent recurrent use, enhancing distress tolerance skills, interweaving cultural activities that reaffirm positive values, and utilizing stories to strengthen resilience and increase hope.

Continuing Care

The first 6 months after residential treatment for substance use is a critical time period, with a higher vulnerability for  recurrent use. We are happy to provide continuing care for clients who have completed residential treatment and want continued outpatient support in their sobriety journey. Our continuing care program focuses on enhancing coping skills and providing support and education. This program offers individual or group counseling for up to 9 hours a week.

State-Approved Court Ordered Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP), Office of Child Services (OCS), and Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) Substance Use Services

APIA is an approved site for drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs and support. If you are seeking an assessment for ASAP, OCS, or ICWA, please have them send a referral with a release of information.

Alcohol and Drug Information School (ADIS)

We are pleased to offer the Prime for Life evidence-based therapeutic program for individuals who have received alcohol or drug related offenses and are involved with the Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP). The Prime for Life program provides an opportunity to explore substance use patterns, learn what research shows about substance use risks, and how to move toward your personal goals.
