Teresa Mae Smith

Teresa Mae Smith teaches bone carving and traditional foods and provides assistance where needed at the Urban Unangax^ Camp. She shares her artists supplies to show kids how to carve caribou antler and shares family recipes and traditions for food preparation. An artist by trade she easily provided the much needed assistant for many other camp activities. She also builds enclosed drying racks, which are used at camp every year.

Ms. Smith was born and raised in False Pass, Alaska and currently resides in Anchorage, Alaska. She crafts unique hand-made jewelry and art made from bone, stone, antler and shells. She collects many of the items used in her jewelry and art while beachcombing in the Aleutians. Mrs. Smith grew up hunting and gathering her foods and never used a cookbook. Recipes from family and elders are memorized and prepared regularly.
