Higher Education/Post-Secondary Education
Higher Education awards can be provided to students in good academic standing with their accredited college or university. Higher Education services also includes financial aid, education, and career counseling and guidance.
Students residing in the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands region who are receiving this service may receive travel assistance (airfare between their home and higher education institution) during the school year.
Higher Education has requirements including: tribal enrollment, credit load, grades, budget forecast, and completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Higher Education is available to students across the U.S. as long as eligibility requirements are met.
Higher Education is available to post-secondary students of all levels, including those pursuing graduate programs.
Awards may be prorated based on case load for students who are not full-time.
Application Deadlines
June 15th is the fall semester deadline.
December 15th is the spring semester deadline.
Eligibility
Tribal Enrollment
APIA’s Higher Education provides awards for students enrolled in, or eligible to be enrolled in the following tribes: Akutan, Belkofski, False Pass, Nelson Lagoon, Nikolski, Pauloff Harbor, or Unga.
Credit Load
Students enrolled full-time, which is generally 12 or more credits for undergraduate and 9 or more credits for graduate programs, are eligible for a full award.
Students enrolled part-time may be eligible for a prorated award.
Grades
Students must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA and good standing with their institution.
Budget Forecast
Students must work with their Student Aid Office to complete a budget forecast. Awards cannot exceed the amount of need listed on the budget forecast.
FAFSA Application
Students must complete a FAFSA Application and submit proof (https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa).
