Attention: Individuals impacted by economic downturns of industries or occupations; such as fishermen affected by closures of fish processing plants

APIA informs the public that General Assistance is available to help pay for essential needs such as food and housing with the following eligibility criteria:

  • Live in the General Assistance service area (Akutan, Atka, False Pass, King Cove, Nelson Lagoon, Nikolski, Sand Point, St. George, or Unalaska)
  • Be Alaska Native or American Indian
  • Meet household income limits over the past month (a “household” is the applying individual plus a married spouse and dependents/children if any)
  • Work search will not be required for the first 3 months. Work search and/or training for a new occupation may be required after 3 months in order to continue to receive General Assistance.

*        The additional COVID Assistance is available to individuals who have lost income or had reduced income due to economic downturns in an industry or occupation (such as the closure of a fish processing plant) related to the large-scale impacts of COVID. These funds are limited and once exhausted, APIA will not continue this benefit.
