JOB TITLE: Southwest Alaska Area Health Education Center Project Coordinator

DUTIES: The Alaska AHEC’s mission is to enhance access to quality health care services, diversity the health workforce and promote retention of health care workers through provision of education and outreach services throughout the state of Alaska. Alaska’s AHEC fulfills this mission by acting in the following areas: Engaging youth and adults by providing educational hands-on activities, camps, and events exploring and preparing for health care careers and opportunities in Alaska; Training health profession students for practice in rural and underserved communities by targeting all disciplines from certificate to doctoral programs and working with health facilities and providers across the state to provide community based experiential learning opportunities and retaining a high quality health care workforce in Alaska by providing access to continuing education, resiliency, and loan repayment opportunities. The ultimate goal is to stabilize the health workforce to better meet the health care needs of Alaska. Under the direction of the CHS Wellness Program Administrator, or designee, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating youth pipeline programming, adult pre-apprenticeship training and continuing education programs, policy, financial and personnel activities of the SW AHEC. Areas of focus include (but are not limited to): grant-funded programs related to workforce development (e.g. HRSA AHEC Subaward, Good Jobs Challenge Subaward, Carl Perkins Subaward, and other associated programs) which assists school districts, communities and healthcare professionals to develop the capacity to deliver healthcare services to rural and underserved populations. Hours of work are 7.5 hours per day, 5 days a week.

QUALIFICATIONS: BS/BA degree preferred from an accredited university in a related health or human service field. Instructor certification in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred: Mental Health First Aid, BLS/CPR, ETT, MANDT, ASISIT, SafeTALK, ACEs, Prime for Life, QPR, and/or other relevant mental health or public health care areas. Passionate about education and have a solid foundation in healthcare training practices. Knowledge through education or work experience in program development/implementation, delivery of services in rural areas, and health promotion. Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated computer proficiency. Successful performance in developing and managing agency grants/contracts. Knowledge of grant policies and procedures and business accounting principles. Experience with policy development at the local, state, and national levels; is preferred. Experience working with healthcare professionals, local community structures, government agencies, academic institutions, private organizations, and non-profit corporations. Experience with the development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs for youth, adults, and/or non-traditional learners. Understanding and knowledge of budget and fiscal procedures. Ability to execute instructions and apply specific guidelines to varied situations, and the ability to effectively express both written and oral

information. Experience in working with youth, diverse cultures, and familiarity with the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands Region. Willing to take training and attend workshops and meetings periodically to enhance job performance and knowledge. 2-4 years’ experience in grant management, writing grants and proposals; preferred. Willingness and means to travel and have a valid Alaska Driver’s License.
