Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Rate of Pay: DOE   Location: Unalaska, Alaska

Duties: Prepare breakfast, lunch and snacks, 5 days a week, following the APIA Start Cycle Menu and the Child and Adult Care Food Program meal pattern requirements.  Complete a Daily Menu and Production Record for each meal served.  Shop at local grocery store weekly. Meet regularly with other staff to evaluate meal program and to plan for nutrition learning experiences for children.  Clean and sanitize all kitchen and dining areas, dishes, pots, pans and utensils used in meal service.  Assist teachers to help children learn how to prepare for breakfast and lunch, wash their hands and set the table.  Follow the all applicable regulations for safe storage of refrigerated, frozen, and dry food. Keep accurate inventory records. Calculate food consumption and request approval for food purchases and follow APIA policy regarding purchase orders. Follow other directives as given by the Teacher, the Health and Nutrition Coordinator and other Coordinators. Maintain Environmental Health and Safety documentation.  Pick up all materials shipped to Head Start, check invoices, and complete a yearly inventory with all staff.  Report to the Lead Teacher daily to ensure a safe and secure environment for the 3-5 year old children in Head Start.

Qualifications: At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma/GED preferred; physically/mentally able to work with young children and their families; and the willingness to be trained nutrition and food service training sponsored by Head Start. Willingness to obtain GED if not in place. Willingness to obtain State of Alaska Safe Food Handler and or Food Protection Manager certification at the request of the Health and Nutrition Coordinator. Requirements: Upon date of hire, must provide documentation of current TB test and Hepatitis screening/vaccination status; pre-employment physical examination; criminal history background clearance and be willing to obtain a CPR and First Aid Certification.
