Unangam Tunuu Intern
On Call (up to 37.5 hours per week) Rate of Pay: $13.30 – $14.56/hr   Location: Anchorage, Alaska

Duties: General tele-work duties include providing support to the regional Unangam tunuu (Aleut language) Regional Core team including, but not limited to: prepping for language “hunts”, “hunting” language from semi-fluent/fluent speakers, teaching lessons over Zoom, and other administrative language tasks. In addition to the duties/tasks listed above, as Municipality mandates lessen, the Unangam Tunuu Intern will be invited to work in the Anchorage office, following COVID-19 protocols.  As these hours increase, duties and tasks will increase as well. In addition to the previously stated tasks, the intern will be expected to, but is not limited to: increase their time “hunting” language from more fluent leaners/speakers, schedule more lessons with the Regional Core Team, assist in create in-person community events when it is safe, assist in creating more lessons for the curriculum, participate in other relevant language acquisition training, type-up lessons, and other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must have previously participated in at least one Summer Language Intensive workshop or two Unangam Tunuu Download Camps. Aleut Culture experience required with knowledge of the Aleutian Pribilof Islands history and region preferred. A demonstrated commitment to learn and increase fluency in Unangam Tunuu. Must have a current understanding of the “Fluency Freeway”. Ability to operate computers, smart devices, basic apps, and basic office equipment. Must be organized and self-initiating with the ability to work with a team of several individuals.
