JOB TITLE: Elder Community Health Aide

WORK HOURS: 24 hours per week
DUTIES: Complete training in REACH (Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer’s Caregiver Health) into Indian Country programming and obtain Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) certification through NCCDP. Implement REACH programming within community and provide other caregiver/patient support, including home visits and general health promotion services. Raise awareness about dementia-related issues and available programming in community through utilization of social media, local newspaper, radio, and distribution of educational materials.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent. Interested in providing health support to the Elders of the community. Will be a resident of the community or interested in relocating to the community. Must be 18 years of age or older, unless there is evidence of extraordinary maturity, with a caring attitude and other good humane qualities. As much as possible and practicable, must meet the following education requirements: a. Eighth grade education; b. Basic arithmetic skills, including decimals; c. Sixth grade English reading level as a minimum. Agree to complete all training requirements for certification (CHP) within three years from the date of employment. The applicant must agree to travel to Anchorage or other designated places for training. Training sessions usually last one to four weeks at a time. Ability to communicate in English and in the local Native language prevalent in the village. Ability to prepare and present effective oral and/or written reports in required format. Willingness and means to travel and have a valid Alaska Driver’s License. Willing to take training and attend workshops and meetings periodically to enhance job performance and knowledge.
