Head Start Education & Disabilities Coordinator
Full -time (37.5 hours per week) Rate of Pay: DOE & Education   Location: Anchorage, AK

Duties: Ensure compliances with all Head Start performance standards as they relate to education services and services to children with disabilities.  Oversee education services; including school readiness, cultural and age appropriate learning experiences which support individual learning styles and promote social and emotional competence. Ensure measurement of development in the eight required domains through on-going screening and assessment of children’s development, monitoring through use data input MIS system.  Provides leadership to the Teaching staff and work in collaboration with other Central Office Staff Coordinators on developing, designing curricula around, and responding to child outcomes.  Oversee the acquisition and management of classroom supplies, equipment and resources working within budget prepared annually.  Work in collaboration with other Central Office Staff Coordinators to develop and maintain written policies and procedures and work plans.  Ensure that site staff are trained in all Head Start child development requirements, observation, language literacy and reading readiness skills, math concepts, problem solving, science, creativity and ensure that staff are familiar with policies and work plans. Promote community partnerships and establish collaborative relationships with Special Education Directors, School Districts, Infant Learning Programs, and other early childhood programs to promote access to services.  As CDA advisor, responsible for implementing a training plan for the teaching staff to ensure 120 hours required by CDA certification and ensure that teaching staff have the knowledge and skill necessary to perform their assigned functions.  Ensure required Mental Health services are provided to the Head Start program which include classroom observations and ensuring timely and effective identification of and intervention in family and staff concerns about a child.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, or related field (with ECE background, credit hours or experience) required plus three to five years relevant work-related experience that includes supervision or management; or any equivalent of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.  Proof of all degrees are required and must be from an accredited university.  Transcripts may also be requested to assist in determining qualifications.  Course descriptions or syllabi may also be requested to assist in determining whether a course is related. Acceptable degrees include: Baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education; or Baccalaureate or advanced degree in any subject, and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education with experience in an early childhood setting. Upon date of hire, must provide documentation of current TB test and Hepatitis screening/vaccination status; criminal history background/fingerprint clearance and be willing to obtain a CPR and First Aid Certification.
