Head Start Substitute Teacher Aide

On-Call           Rate of Pay: $12.91 – $14.11/hr DOE   Location: Unalaska, Alaska

Duties: Assist APIA Head Start Teacher as requested to implement daily lesson plans; preparation and clean-up of activities, meals, special projects, etc.; teach, by role modeling, children appropriate health, dental, and personal hygiene; provide opportunities for children to develop self-mastery skills by allowing children to accomplish as much on their own and offering assistance only when needed; provide atmosphere for children to develop positive self-esteem and pride by incorporating their culture/heritage into everyday classroom activities; provide safe environment for children by supervising them at all times, indoors and out; and use of appropriate discipline/guidance techniques, including redirection, acknowledgment of appropriate behavior, and setting reasonable limits

Qualifications: At least 19 years of age with a high school diploma/GED; one year of experience working with groups of children as a child care provider in home/center and/or volunteering in a Head Start program; physically/mentally able to work with young children and their families; and the willingness to be trained in the field of early childhood development and to engage in appropriate topical reading and individual work. Upon date of hire, must provide documentation of current TB test and Hepatitis screening/vaccination status; pre-employment physical examination; fingerprints, criminal history background clearance and be willing to obtain a CPR and First Aid Certification.
