WORK HOURS: 7.5 hours per day
Job Summary: Responsible for coordinating activities in collaboration with APIA Wellness initiatives, the community and school to include: Elders social gatherings, arts and crafts, and other projects that encourage and support a TOTAL WELLNESS environment. Assist in the development and coordination of various health education presentations in the community and school. Attend community meetings to provide information and receive feedback of services being provided. Will interact and coordinate professional activities with other village-based providers, helping to provide early intervention, case management, aftercare and follow-up for individuals and families. Will coordinate annual Health Fair and other events that promote a healthy lifestyle. Provide home visits to Elders and others to assist in facilitating access to health care services. Serve as a local resource for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)/Diabetes, Tobacco Program and other programs.
Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent. Will be BHA-I certified within a three year period after the date of hire. Must be able to maintain a personal and professional code of ethics that establishes BHA as a role model. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and follow through on assigned tasks. Demonstrated skills in writing, oral reporting, and record keeping. Ability to speak publicly. An interest in and ability to learn about wellness initiatives, Elders’ services, WIC and the Diabetes programs. Must have a willingness to work within diverse cultures. Willingness to be trained and to maintain a CPR and First Aid certification. Knowledge of desktop publishing and word process preferred. Must have a demonstrated commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. Willingness and means to travel and have a valid Alaska Driver’s License. Willing to take training and attend workshops and meetings periodically to enhance job performance and knowledge. Interest and knowledge of Native lifestyle and culture. Native preference will be given depending on experience.
