The Aleutian/Pribilof Region

The Aleutian Islands extend westward over 1,300 miles from the southwestern corner of the Alaska mainland, and include the Pribilof Islands which lie to the north. This area is distributed over an area of approximately 100,000 square miles, a region slightly larger than Virginia, Kentucky and Maryland combined. This area is also a heavily active volcanic region. Click here for a map of the active volcanoes in this region. The 13 communities represented by A/PIA are Akutan, Atka, Belkofski, False Pass, King Cove, Nelson Lagoon, Nikolski, Pauloff Harbor, Sand Point, St. George, St. Paul, Unalaska, and Unga. Other communities that are a part of the Aleutian Chain, but not a part of A/PIA are: Adak, Amchitka, and Attu.
